Retaining walls – DIY or get the pros?
Hey crew, I’ve got a bit of a slope in the backyard that’s giving me grief. Been thinking about putting in a retaining wall so I can actually level off the area and make it more usable. Trouble is, I’m not sure if this is the sort of thing you can tackle DIY style or if I’d just be setting myself up for a disaster. I don’t mind a bit of weekend warrior work, but I also don’t wanna end up with a dodgy wall that collapses after the first bit of rain. Anyone done this themselves, or is it one of those “leave it to the experts” jobs?

Mate, unless you’re super confident with digging, drainage and lugging heavy blocks around, I’d say call in the pros. Retaining walls aren’t just about stacking things up – if you don’t get the footing and drainage right, you’ll be redoing it in six months. We had ours done professionally last year and it’s been brilliant – no movement, no water issues, and it actually looks schmick. Saved me a bad back too. If you want a reliable crew, these blokes did ours: https://fullflexfencing.au/services/retaining-walls/ – honestly worth every cent.
