How availability heuristic hurts bettors

I was reading about something called the availability heuristic and it hit me how often I’ve fallen for it. For example, I still remember a striker’s amazing hat trick from last season, and because of that I kept betting on his team even when they were struggling. Then I saw this article — https://www.bettingkingdom.co.uk/blog/betting-advice/why-betting-against-media-darlings-pays-off/ — which explained how our brains put more weight on dramatic highlights instead of the real stats. Do these kinds of services actually help people avoid that mental trap?

It’s fascinating how the mind works in sports. People naturally recall exciting comebacks or viral goals, but they rarely remember weeks of average performances. That imbalance makes some teams look stronger than they really are. It shows why bettors often get tricked by stories instead of patterns, and why a calm look at the numbers can give a clearer picture.
