About Oldfield Poll Herefords

We operate a herd base of 350 poll Hereford females, drawn from leading Australia/New Zealand and North American genetics. We recently purchased the Markowen stud from South Australia to supplement our herd.  They have settled in well and we are looking forward to adding the Markowen diverse genetics to ours.  It will be an exciting mix of leading stud industry genetics.  All our cows are fertile and functional breeders which calve at 2 years of age. Our cows must calve and rear their progeny in natural conditions to remain in our herd.

This rigorous focus on breeding selection ensures that the Hereford breed's renowned qualities of outstanding performance in all conditions, feed efficiency and fertility are maintained and improved in our herd. We also pursue a multitude of commercial traits for endurance and profit. Consistency in structural soundness, calving ease and superior muscle growth are vital.

We have participated in Breedplan performance recording since 1994, and gain above average EBVs across a number of traits. We are a participant in the Meat Standards Australia program (MSA grading) under Meat & Livestock Australia, and a supplier to Hereford Prime.

Our current sires for physical joining are Oldfield Dynamite! D43, Markowen Classic, Tahlan Centrefold C34, Cannawigra Battleground C79 and outstanding New Zealand bull, Otapawa Skymate 2046 ET (NZ).

 

Our 16th annual on-property sale is on Friday, 31 August 2012 with inspection from 11am and sale-o! at 1pm. Our sale bulls are all grass fed and commercially oriented. They have well developed carcase qualities, are balanced, quiet, with good skin and hair and ample power. They have been hand-picked from quality lines of milking females, and are sired by bulls who we think advance the breed. All bulls are fully immunised, semen tested and veterinary certified.
 

We want to make a positive and lasting difference to your beef business. Peter has managed the Oldfield stud for over twenty years and has travelled extensively overseas studying the poll Hereford breed.
