What People Say About Us

David Swain
David Swain
I have been using Oldfield bulls for a number of years. They all have excellent temperament, good conformation and great eye pigmentation. We have next to no calving problems with Oldfield bulls. The after sale service and assistance that I receive from the McArthur family, combined with the above qualities, are the reasons why we continue to buy Oldfield bulls.

Welcome to Oldfield Poll Herefords

Oldfield Poll Hereford Stud was formed in 1984, based on a commercial herd established in 1968. We are located at Emerald Hill on the North West Plains approximately 22km NW of Gunnedah New South Wales. Situated in some of the best all round farming and fattening country in Australia, our operation runs on 3000 acres consisting of farming and cattle.

We operate a herd base of 200 poll Hereford females, drawn from leading Australia/New Zealand and North American genetics. Our sires include champion sires purchased through Sydney Royal and Dubbo National shows and through A.I. programs such as Allendale Octagonal, Davis 80U Facsimile 14X (A.I.), Heatherdale Tyson V200, Kayne Trademark (A.I), Markowen Crusader Y2, Bowen Tornado Z260 (ET) and The Ranch Brigadier B21.

We are passionate and committed poll Hereford breeders, for exceptional performance in all conditions, and want to make a positive and lasting difference to your beef business.

Featured Information

Home grown stud sire

We are delighted to present Oldfield Dynamite! D43.  A son of Bowen Tornado Z260 (ET) and Oldfield Lioness W63, we think Dynamite is the best bull we have bred in 25 years of stud breeding.  Visitors to our stud have consistently picked Dynamite out as the bull they'd like to take home but he is too good to let go.  Dynamite will join our sire battery for the 2010 joining season.  We are however offering Dynamite as an AI sire (see the Herefords Australia Limited's 2010 Directory of Stud Sires or contact us) and you can see him at the 2010 Sydney Royal Easter Show.  Photo (right) taken at 16 months of age.

2 new sires for Oldfield's October 2009 mating season

We are pleased to introduce two new sires for this mating season: Otapawa Skymate 2046 ET and Tahlan Centrefold C34.  Skymate was purchased at the NZ Herefords National Sale for $32,000.  He is out of a NZ Silver Benchmark cow, Otapawa Leonora P23 and is sired by Sky 236G Premier 132K (USA).  Skymate has outstanding EBVs including Milk +32, 600DW +86, Eye Muscle Area +4.8 and Retail Beef Yield +2.1.  We are using him in an AI program with 30 cows.

Centrefold was Junior Champion Bull at the 2008 Glen Innes Show & Sale and was the top price bull in the sale.  A November 2007 calf, he weighed 935kg and had a scanned Eye Muscle Area of 127 square cms.  His dam is Tycolah Cherry X98 and he was sired by Cascade Zircon Z07.  He is a stylish bull with presence and beautiful cosmetics so his name suits!  Centrefold is out with cows for physical joining and is proving vigorous in his first season.

Both new sires offer tremendous carcase qualities among other strong traits to lift our herd's performance.  They join The Ranch Brigadier B21 as our second sire for physical joining.  Brigadier's calves this year were well-marked with strong growth about them so we look forward to his 2010 drop.
