What People Say About Us

David Swain
David Swain
I have been using Oldfield bulls for a number of years. They all have excellent temperament, good conformation and great eye pigmentation. We have next to no calving problems with Oldfield bulls. The after sale service and assistance that I receive from the McArthur family, combined with the above qualities, are the reasons why we continue to buy Oldfield bulls.

Welcome to Oldfield Poll Herefords

Oldfield Poll Hereford Stud was formed in 1984, after a commercial herd was established in 1968. We are located at Emerald Hill on the North West Plains approximately 22km NW of Gunnedah in New South Wales. We are family owned and family run.

We operate a herd base of 350 registered poll Hereford females, drawn from leading Australia/New Zealand and North American genetics. We purchased the Markowen female herd from Ketih, SA, in October 2010. We are EU ACCREDITED.

THE 2011 JOINING SEASON IS IN FULL SWING - we are using our home-grown champion sire Oldfield Dynamite! D43,  Markowen The Don F54, The Ranch Brigadier B21 and Cannawigra Battleground C74 for physical joining in 2011.  We are also doing an A.I. programme over 50 heifers with Bowen Extremist E96, Koanui Safety 8557 (Imp NZ) and Cascade El Dorado E27.

So whichever bull you purchase from Oldfield, you will gain performance genetics across the board.  We are passionate and committed poll Hereford breeders, for exceptional performance in all conditions, and want to make a positive and lasting difference to your beef business.  Feel free to call us for a chat or a tour.  We'd be delighted to show you around.

Home grown stud sire

10/04/2010 Reserve Senior Champion Bull, Sydney Royal Easter Show
06/03/2010 Senior Champion Bull, Barraba 99th Annual Agricultural Show

Oldfield Dynamite! D43 is the best bull we have bred in 25 years of stud breeding.  At 20 months of age, Dynamite weighed 975kgs and scanned an EMA of 130 square cms. A son of Bowen Tornado Z260 (ET) and Oldfield Lioness W63, we think he is a leading bull for the Hereford breed.  Visitors to our stud have consistently picked Dynamite out as the bull they'd like to take home and he roused alot of interest at Sydney Royal too.  Dynamite will join our sire battery again for the 2011 joining season as we want his outstanding carcase traits throughout our herd.   Semen in Dynamite is available and at commercial quantities if desired.  See our "Sales" page for details or contact us direct.

Another successful year at Dubbo

Oldfield Excalibur PHAE115
Oldfield Excalibur PHAE115

At the 50th annual Poll Hereford National Show and Sale at Dubbo in June there was strong buying by commercial producers from a quality line-up. We had another successful year selling two bulls and a heifer to a top of $10,000 and average of $7500.

Thanks to the Wilson brothers from Kerlson Pines PHS, Keith SA, who purchased Oldfield Excalibur PHAE115 (pictured) (2nd in class) for $10,000 and Lambert PHS, Charleville Qld, for paying $5000 to secure Oldfield Easy Rider PHAE148 (2nd in class).  Master Lachie Scurr, 14, of Lachedale Stud, Texas Qld bought Oldfield Virtue PHAF153 for $2500 to kick start his breeding program.  Lachie is a keen young cattleman and we wish him all the best.

Oldfield purchases Markowen PHS

October 2010 - we are delighted to announce our purchase of the Markowen PHS from Bordertown, SA.  The purchase is of 135 joined stud cows up to 6 years of age, their calves and two stud sires, Morganvale Duncan D282 and Markowen Classic C49.

Mark Scown has developed over 23 years a magnificent line of functional cows with beautiful udders, heaps of capacity and above average EBVs across all the traits.  The bloodlines are drawn from first-class world studs including Kilmorlie and Burr-tooth (USA), Koanui (NZ), and Wiranya, Allendale, Heatherdale, Kidman and Mount Difficult (AUS).  It will be exciting to blend their genetics with our own to create a fresh, high-performance product for our valued clients.

The Hereford brand offers tremendous opportunities to beef producers. We are now competitive with Euro breeds for growth and with Angus for marbling.  The health of Herefords in feedlots is improving.  Eye cancer has been virtually eliminated.  It was recently proven that Herefords cannot be beaten for feed efficiency off grass and grass-related products.  Consumers are increasingly drawn to quality products produced naturally as the recent HGP issue showed. The economic efficiencies the Hereford brand offers are second to none.  We want to meet the demand for performance poll Hereford bulls.

In our 26th year of stud breeding, our herd will expand to 350 registered breeders. We will be able to pick up to 50 top poll Hereford bulls for our sale on 26 August 2011 and look forward to showing you the quality of our draft.
